It has been a busy 2 weeks of GO GO GOOO with Back To School, the after-school pick shuffle, doctor’s appointments, and getting ready to be on TV for the first time. Not only has Mina had to get used to full day school, but running here and there after school. Poor little girl just wants time to play and dance!
Let’s also throw into the busy pie one last ingredient: I had no car. YUP, car broken, in mechanic for almost 2 weeks. I became resourceful, borrowed cars, walked when I could, and called in favors for help.
It was a lesson in how to get things done, thinking out of the box, and multitasking on various levels.
I think the biggest lesson I learned through all of this is that I can only be as prepared as I can to meet the day ahead and I will deal with the hurdles as they come with quiet acceptance. I am a very structured person in how I plan my To-DO’s. I have had to be organized, for myself, to get what I need to get done, done. However, when it does not only involve me, I have learned to be more flexible and less rigid about how things [in my mind] need to get done.
As long as I feel that I have done what I could do to uphold my accountability for the day, I can take a deep breathe and forge ahead into the unknown of how that will all play out.
As Alex and I were planning the week last weekend, thinking of possible problems that could come up, I found myself saying: We will figure it out when we get to that point. I realized it is good to be proactive in your planning to acknowledge what could trip you up, but not dwell on it. Problems are never as bad as they seem in your mind, so worrying about them isn’t going to help.
I will meet the problems as prepared as I can be and move through them with Grace. What else can I do? I refuse to be tripped up by variable “X” or “Y” getting in my way. So, I will carefully raise my skirt over the mud, delicately maneuver myself so as not to get stuck, and make it to the other side. Smooth the skirt back into place, fix the stray hair that has gone awry and continue on.
I was helping friends set up their yard-sale yesterday afternoon, and I was asked: Do you sleep with all that you do in a day? Um…Good Question. Not Much was my answer with doing work before Mina wakes and after Mina Sleeps. Maybe I should put sleep as Agenda Item Numero UNO!!
Last night, once allowed the opportunity to sit, a wave hits me-I am Tired. I remember my agenda: Allow yourself time to sleep. So I gave myself permission and went to bed at 8pm. Thanks Jess, for the little reminder!!
