Abundance

abundance

It has been an interesting day. Do you remember back in January when I lost in court and had to give back the $5000? To recap: my portion of the the retirement had gained interest before separation of retirement funds. I found out about it when I got the disbursement letter in December 2012. I looked at it as an unexpected gift and left it at that. I was taken to court because it seems that I may or may not have been entitled to the interest. I did not hold any attachment to the money and released the gift back with the thought: If it is meant to come back to me, it will…

Well, guess what? It did!

I received an email from my aunt over in turkey informing me of her generous 40th birthday present to me: $5000! Makes you think about all those thoughts that leave your head, intentionally and unintentionally, huh? maat2

As I was looking for images of “abundance” on pinterest, I kept coming across the image of the Egyptian goddess, Ma’at. She represents truth, justice and balance in the midst of Chaos. The symbol of the Feather is important when speaking of Ma’at. In the afterlife, souls need to pass Ma’at’s test before moving through the gates of Aaru. Ma’at weighs the person’s “heart” on a scale against her “Feather of Ma’at” or truth. If the heart is unworthy, the soul is devoured by the goddess Ammit.

I was struck by so many feather images and it’s association with “truth and justice.” I also remembered so long ago writing my name in hieroglyphics: My name has 2 Ma’at feathers in it.

Am I reading too much in this feather symbol that keeps appearing to me? Maybe. But, in a way, it is validation in the way I handled the loss of the retirement money. I allowed it to flow into and out of my life with grace and gratitude. I held no attachment to it or resentment from it. I choose to believe that life balances itself one way or another. It is how you deal with the imbalance that shows your true character.

The simple truths of Ma’at are still applicable thousands of years later, a code of ethics to help you find balance in the midst of chaos.
