Best Friends

August 8, 2013 / by Elif Ekin / 1 Comment

My MinaMeet Mina, she is my little girl, but also my best friend. I just love this kid! It is always me and mina, doing everything together. People come in and out of days, but she and I are a package deal. Sometimes, it can be a lot for me to try and be superwoman and super mom at the same time. I get a few days to myself here and there to crunch out serious work from sunup to sundown. This is my normal. Other moms sometimes say that I need more time to myself, to get a “break” from being a mom.

Yes and no. Yes, I can see their point about Mommy “Me” Time. No, this time with Mina is so valuable for me and us.

She is my friend, my best friend. Our days are fluid between being independent in the same space as we are now. We  have adult conversations about interpersonal relations, world events, and the environment, discuss how/when we should harvest our garden’s produce, or just be crazy dancing gypsy girls in the living room.

Mina and I have been together almost 4 weeks straight and I actually am looking forward to the next few days, just she and I quiet at home reading, cooking, dancing, and being silly.

She can be super serious when she discusses the benefits of various dog breeds as a pet. Mama, I believe German shepherds would be nice for our family because they are so protective, but Poodles are better for allergies. Then, we will get all silly and laugh. You are my Gypsy Mama and I am your gypsy little girl so let’s dance!

School days are coming up fast and she is going to be in school for a full day now. I will fully admit that as much as solid work time will be appreciated on some days, I am going to miss that sparkly presence dancing and spinning just off to the side in the living room while I write. I feel so blessed to have been able to really have all these moments and memories with her as we have grown, together, these past few years. Being her mom has made me grow up and grow into a better person as well as challenging me to be a better mom every day.

Mama, you and I are stuck together like glue, forever and ever! mama and mina
