Exfoliation, Inside & Out

July 20, 2013 / by Elif Ekin / Leave a Comment

Natural CleanersOver the past few months, stress has caused my face to explode all over the place and just hurt. Determine to Walk the Talk of home-made goodness, I thought I would apply the same mentality to facial cleansers and soon to household cleaners. How come I put my health or my skins health last on the list of To-Do projects? I decided to invest the time, but not the money into self care.

Zola and I took one Saturday afternoon and made them all, one set  for her mom and one set for me. I had no idea if I would like using them or if I would “take the time” to use them. It take conscious effort on my part to make the time to do something for myself.

Over the course of the past month, I have noticed a difference in myself not just in my skin. I feel that in taking the time to care and exfoliate my skin, I have also taking time to work thru the dead skin inside, metaphorically. The more I cared for myself on the outside, I was also taking the time to get in tune with myself on the inside. I began Exfoliating my Soul, not just my skin. Peeling away layers of emotions, issues, stress enabled me to feel clearer and cleaner. I did take the time to care for my skin. While I was doing it, I listened to all the rumblings in my brain and allowed them an outlet…I sent them down the drain! My friend Isil’s mom says to speak a nightmare or fears to running water so that the water will cleanse and take the problems down the drain. I incorporated that philosophy in my cleaning routine.

As I began to grow new, healthy skin on my face, I was also growing a new Emotional skin. I realized something else with this process. It occurred to me that when problems arise in life, people just want to scrub it away as fast as possible. That is just too abrasive and leaves you raw, emotional. It takes time to care and soften dead skin so it can separate from you without leaving you feeling ripped apart. It will only get worse if problems are not cared for, layer by layer.

It is all about making yourself a priority, feeling valued in yourself, and not needing external validation or approval. When you feel that you have value, you are more likely to recognize quicker what does not make you feel valued. When we recognize what does not align with who we are inside and out, we can remove ourselves from that situation; thereby, reducing our stress over things beyond our control.

Create your own Soul Spa Day and take care of yourself. Guarantee you will feel smooth and spicy inside as well as on the outside.
