This morning as I was getting ready for the day, I stumbled upon a little video. Curious, I pressed play and was blown away for a few different reasons. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you have accomplished in life, there is always one part of you that you are most insecure to show because it is the most inspired. People are most vulnerable when something they create, from deep within their soul, exposes them at the deepest level.
I know that I feel like that when have these “crazy” creative ideas in my head: There she goes again, getting creative is what I am afraid people will say. Judging me for my flighty endeavors, I expect rolled eyes and a sigh. Because of this fear, this vulnerability, I only share my inner most stuff with a select group of people.
Before today, I believed that when you become a famous artist, that fear, those insecurities diminish because there is so much validation in your work. I was wrong. Today, I watched something beautiful and inspiring. I felt a connection with someone I will never know because he exposed his human-ness despite his status.
Did you know that Sir Anthony Hopkins is a music composer who composed one of the most beautiful waltz’s? In another life before acting, he was a musician. He composed a waltz and told no one about it for 50 years. No one had seen it and he never heard it played. One day, while watching TV, he saw a orchestra play: That is the orchestra who can play my waltz!
He contacted the conductor and the rest is history! As I watched the video and Anthony Hopkins face, there was a joy there that could be felt. Even after all that he had accomplished in his life, a little part of him still had remained insecure and shy. THOSE are the times we should shout out who we are and what we do because they are the most real elements of who we are! The most inspired acts that we can do come from love and the heart. Embrace that. I know I did.
