Wow! It has been a crazy 24 hours of nuttiness! What should have been a simple plugin update on my website turned into a lock down nightmare!! The NexGen Gallery plugin update made my site inaccessible.
The most frustrating aspect of the situation was that I was able to find the solution to the problem in less than a minute by googling the error message-I just couldn’t get into my site to do it! Made me very grumpy!!
Searching for support on the various wordpress and Genesis framework for was not helpful at all which only added to the frustration!
I decided to try the web hosting platform, Daily Razor, to see what they had to offer: Woohoo! Live Contact!!
After explaining my issue, I asked if there was a way to go in from the back-end from their site delete this plugin update. It took them hours to be able to get in and give me a FTP password. I downloaded the suggested freeware, FileZilla, used my new user name and password, and I was IN! I had access to the files on my website, finally! I double checked that just deleting the mischievous plugin wouldn’t totally screw up my website and then did it. Lo and Behold-it worked! Within a minute, my login page appeared and I was able to access my site. All is well with the world!
All of this makes me more cautious now when I update something. In the future, I am going to take the extra time to do a few minutes of research on the update before simply pressing the update button! A few extra minutes might save hours of frustration!
