Tip Tuesday: Be a Tree, Let Go

October 1, 2019 / by Elif Ekin / Leave a Comment

The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let go.

I think the hardest thing for me while going through my divorce was how many people left my side when I needed them most. It wasn’t something that I had considered when I began the process. As time progressed, a few came back and few didn’t.

Over the years since then, I have had more people release themselves from my life and float away. It seems to come in bunches because, hell-it’s all or nothing, right? It truly feels like a fall shedding when it happens. Each time, I wanted to tether a string to their leafy stems and keep them close. Each time, the knots were never right and i couldn’t hold on.

What I learned is that when these shifts happens, it means great things are coming. I am not discounting that it hurts like a bugger, but that for great things to happen, space needs to be made. It is not only the way we would wish it to look like.

Trees are massive beings that bridge the sky and go deep beneath. Their limbs always reaching in unknown directions and accepting what comes as well as grounding deep with their roots streching further and further to draw up the energy from below.

Leaves cast aside for new, stronger buds. That’s what it’s like moving through life after divorce. We are constantly re-learning who we are and how we want out lives to look like now that we take back control.

We will lose family.

We will lose friends.

We will lose jobs.

We will lose our health.

We will lose our homes.

We may even lose our sanity a bit.

All of this is ok because that is part of the process of letting go of the old life. It also creates awareness of what’s important. Mourn the loss, but allow those old life leaves compost down so new growth can come thru. We have begun planting seeds of a new life. Welcome the change, make some tea, put on that cozy sweater, and know that you now have the space to receive something big. Be sad, but also be excited! I’m here to tell you it is going to better than you could have ever imagined!
