Man falls from the pursuit of the ideal of plain living and high thinking the moment he wants to multiply his daily wants. Man’s happiness really lies in contentment. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
When I sit down to write out my list of To-Do’s, I am usually talking to myself as I write, “OK, I need to do this, this, this, … and get that, that, that … oh yes! And I need to call …” and the list really never ends. But did I really answer the question?
I would like to get everything scratched off my list, but is that the best use of my energy?
Take a look at your list again…Now separate the list into two columns titled “NEED” and “WANT”.
Anything that does not fall under the category: Food, Shelter, and Health is a Want … except for coffee–THAT’s a definite NEED!
What works for me is to reward myself with a want after completing 5 things I need to do. It keeps my motivation going and maintains my momentum. Identifying, categorizing, and prioritizing just a bit in the morning helps me feel less overwhelmed.
How can you attend to your needs with a sprinkling of wants? Tell me how this works for you! I would love your feedback!
Join me this Saturday, November 23, 2013, @ 10 am for a Need vs Want Workshop!
